Gateway Regional is looking forward to holding our 5th Annual Career Day on Friday, December 11th. Students in grades 7-11 will spend the day meeting with various speakers regarding their careers, paths which were taken to get to their current fields, and recommendations for success. Seniors are able to job shadow or attend college visitations. This district-wide program has been a catalyst to Gateway's mission to increase the career awareness for all of its students. Past students and presenters have reported that this day holds special meaning and allows students to connect to career areas they didn't originally realize were options.
Caitlyn Weiss from the Talent Network was a guest speaker for the Gateway to Careers class on Tuesday November 17th. Caitlyn spoke about the importance of using social media responsibly and how employers and colleges are monitoring students social media posts and using that information in their decision making process. She gave several examples of how employers terminated workers for inappropriate behaviors that reflected badly on the company. Caitlyn stressed to the students that they should monitor their own social media and gave them a tool in the website www.reppler.com. A few of the students in the class said they took Caitlyn's advice and started to monitor their own social media as result. Caitlyn presentation was a part of a larger unit on workplace communication as they students prepare to begin internship placements in the second semester.
